The Wonderful Tongue

Tongues are wonderful things you know. They come in all sizes, very big to very small. Sometimes they are short and sometimes very long. The go in and out of our mouth and feel all slippery. They can turn from side to side, and then move up and down. Sometimes a very talented tongue can do twists and curl up.
Tongues are useful for eating our foods. They help us to taste and to lick ice cream. We couldn't swallow our food without the help of our tongues. Our tongues play an important role when we talk and when we sing. The world would be a very quiet place without our tongues.
Tongues can also get us in trouble, like when we are mad and stick them out at our friend.
What would the world be like without a tongue? Very sad and empty. So take special care of your tongue and pay attention to the many ways your tongue makes your day happier.

Chapter 1

Another night alone. The reality was getting harder and harder for Brendan to face. Microwave dinners and stale TV shows were not his idea of an exciting evening, but they were all he had. He never intended to stay a bachelor so long, time had just seemed to pass by. He had enjoyed his freedom and the great pay at his job, nothing to worry about or tie him down. But as he looked around his cluttered apartment that lacked even a trace of feminine influence he began to rethink his life. Twenty-eight years of living and this was all he had to show for it. He went to the fridge and grabbed a moutain dew. "Maybe I should get a dog," he thought. Coming home had become a disappointment, just a reminder of everything his life was without. All of his coworkers at the Good Year plant had their desks scattered with pictures of family, a wife and kids. All Bredan had was an outdated calendar and a chipped Starbucks coffee mug. With his parents long since dead and no other family to speak of Bredan was alone.

He plopped down on his leather sofa and began to flip through the channels on his TV ......news...sports....sitcom.....cooking show..."Hey!" Bredan sat up and starred at the channel where he had stopped. A woman was cooking an Italian dish, but it wasn't the food he was focused on. "I know her," he said aloud. Meticulously he thought back through college and high school trying to place the face. Finally he remembered. Stacie Peterson. She was a skinny girl in his old church youth group that everyone including himself had made fun of. She had always been shy and gangly, with braces and big glasses. That was why is had taken him a minute to place her. She looked nothing like he remembered and he was quickly wishing he had been more friendly to her. He was positive it was her though and as the show ended he saw her name appear in the credits to confirm it, Miss Stacie Peterson. He didn't now why he cared, but he found himself paying particular notice to the "miss" part of her name. He changed the channel trying to consentrate on something else, but her face kept appearing in his mind. "I wonder why she isn't married," he thought to himself.
She had been a nice girl and if it hadn't been for her awkward looks he might have given her more thought. Now nearly 10 years later, she had a smile that engraved her face in your memory and eyes the color of the evening sky. He had never really noticed her eyes before behind those thick glasses. Now they seemed to still stare at him in his thoughts. He tried to dismiss the thoughts of her only to find himself thinking about her again.

The

The sun sent waves of glorious color over the land kissing each of the trees goodnight as it made its evening decent. The wind blew through the foliage clad trees and they swayed back and forth as if waving good bye. The temperture began to drop and woodland animals dashed to and fro seeking shelter for the night. Over head an owl flew in menacing circles searching for a small creature that ventured into the open. He was well rested from his day long sleep and his empty stomache longed for a furry companion. His eye sight was keen as he investigated every movement below him. Suddenly he saw a mouse perched on a flat rock, nibbling on a morsal of food. With a cry that sliced through the night the owl expertly changed his flying pattern and dove toward the forest floor and his prey. The terrified mouse heard the owl's cry and scurried into his hole under the rock just as the owls claws skimmed past his trembling body. The owl had missed this time, but it was unlikely that his next attempt would fail. He was too cunning for that, he was the master of the night. The forest was his domaign and he loved to keep the creatures therein living in dread of him.

The Jaws of Death

The rain drops that fell outside seemed to seal her doom with each splatter. The river was rising and there was nothing Aundrea could do but lie still and watch. Caught inside the gnarled rubble of her previously beautiful 2008 Mustang, she could only relive the tragic scene over and over in her mind.

Her eighteenth birthday had been a double affair to celebrate. Her parents had bought her a new car to replace the junk heap that she had been driving, and David had proposed. After dating all through high school, her sweetheart had finally gotten up enough nerve to ask her to be his wife. Of course they were planning on a long engagement. David had one more year in his apprenticeship program before he could take a position in the computer company his parents owned. Then the two of them could be married. Aundrea was a budding artist, and wanted nothing more than to be David's wife and paint.

Excitement had taken over Aundrea's mind as she prepared for a birthday dinner in her honor at her favorite Italian restaurant. David had to make a quick run home for another surprise, so Aundrea had decided to drive her car alone. The storm that hit had taken her totally by surprise. Her vision was totally obliterated by the dense rain and she panicked as she drove down the slick road. Then headlights appeared in front of her and she swerved off the road. That's all she remembered.

She awoke to find herself battered and bruised inside her car. The car must have plummeted down a ravine. The front end was lying in a swollen river of water and the car was half full of water. The rain outside was maliciously adding to the water around her, and the thunder and lightning only added to her panic. "If I could only get my body to move", Aundrea cried to herself. Her arms were pinned down and her submerged legs were so frozen that she couldn't move them.
Praying for help was the only avenue open to her, and she gave herself up to mighty hands of her Savior.

The Bravest Princess Ever

The Bravest Princess Ever

Once upon a time, in a kingdom far away there lived a young princess named Annastazia. Annastazia was very much like your ordinary princess in many ways. She was beautiful to look at, had pretty clothes to wear, and lived in a pink and purple castle on top of a green hill. Annastazia lived in the castle with her parents the king and queen.

However, Annastazia was different from most princesses in one way, she could fly. The king and queen realized this amazing gift when their daughter was first born. The queen had just tucked little Annastazia into bed and left the nursery when she was shocked to here giggling and general commotion coming from behind the closed door. The frightened queen rushed back into her daughter’s room, only to find the tiny princess soaring up...down......and around the room.
From that day on the king and queen were beside themselves with worry for their daughter. Annastazia like to fly all over the castle. Doctors could not explain the strange phenomenon, and told the distraught parents that maybe someday she would grow out of it.

But Princess Annastazia did not grow out of flying; instead she loved it more and more. Over time her parents just accepted the fact that their daughter could fly. They became very proud of her. They did insist however, that Annastazia still learn to be a proper princess. But princess lessons were not Annastazia’s favorite thing to do. Annastazia preferred to flying and playing with the birds to learning how to curtsy properly. Sometimes when it was time for lessons, Annastazia would fly up into a tree on the castle grounds and play with the birds. She would pretend not to hear her mother calling her. It was a very naughty thing to do! But Annastazia loved her parents and even though she wasn’t very fond of her lessons, she tried to learn the best she could in order to please them.

As time passed and Princess Annastazia grew older, she became beloved by everyone in her kingdom for her kindness and helpfulness. Whenever a task involving flying was needed, the princess was always eager to help. She helped get kites out of trees, cats off roofs, and baby birds back in their nests. When there was a drought in the land, Princess Annastazia would fly up and talk to the clouds. With her sweetness and gentleness she would convince the clouds to rain again.

One day in late spring, a terrible blackness fell over the land. It covered up the sun and turned the sky dark. All of the birds stopped singing. The kingdom was silent and everyone stood outside of their homes starring up in fear at the sky. What could be covering up all of the light?

Princess Annastazia stood next to her parents as they looked out from the castle at the black sky. The queen nearly fainted, and the king looked fearful. “The kingdom will be ruined,” cried the queen. “We must send for our trusted advisors,” said the king.
But when the advisors arrived they were just as perplexed as the rest of the kingdom. No one knew what the blackness was that had covered up the light.

Princess Annastazia knew there was just one answer to this problem. “I will fly high, high up in the sky and see what is causing this blackness”, she said confidently.

Although the king and queen did not want their precious daughter to undertake such a dangerous mission, they didn’t know what else to do. After many hugs and kisses Princess Annastazia took off. Everyone in the kingdom watched as she flew up towards the blackness.

When Princess Annastazia reached the highest part of the sky she could fly to, she called out to the blackened sun. “Sun, why have you turned black?” At first there was no reply. Then in soft voice the sun answered. “I am here. I am just hiding behind the moon. This is a solar eclipse. The moon is blocking my light. I will return very soon. Don’t worry brave princess.”

The princess was overjoyed that the kingdom was not in terrible danger. She flew quickly back down to her anxiously waiting family and kingdom. Princess Annastazia explained what the sun had told her. Just as she finished telling everyone about the solar eclipse, the moon moved from covering the sun and the kingdom was filled with light. The birds began to sing again and everyone in the kingdom let out a cheer for Princess Annastazia, the Bravest Princess Ever!
