The Jaws of Death

The rain drops that fell outside seemed to seal her doom with each splatter. The river was rising and there was nothing Aundrea could do but lie still and watch. Caught inside the gnarled rubble of her previously beautiful 2008 Mustang, she could only relive the tragic scene over and over in her mind.

Her eighteenth birthday had been a double affair to celebrate. Her parents had bought her a new car to replace the junk heap that she had been driving, and David had proposed. After dating all through high school, her sweetheart had finally gotten up enough nerve to ask her to be his wife. Of course they were planning on a long engagement. David had one more year in his apprenticeship program before he could take a position in the computer company his parents owned. Then the two of them could be married. Aundrea was a budding artist, and wanted nothing more than to be David's wife and paint.

Excitement had taken over Aundrea's mind as she prepared for a birthday dinner in her honor at her favorite Italian restaurant. David had to make a quick run home for another surprise, so Aundrea had decided to drive her car alone. The storm that hit had taken her totally by surprise. Her vision was totally obliterated by the dense rain and she panicked as she drove down the slick road. Then headlights appeared in front of her and she swerved off the road. That's all she remembered.

She awoke to find herself battered and bruised inside her car. The car must have plummeted down a ravine. The front end was lying in a swollen river of water and the car was half full of water. The rain outside was maliciously adding to the water around her, and the thunder and lightning only added to her panic. "If I could only get my body to move", Aundrea cried to herself. Her arms were pinned down and her submerged legs were so frozen that she couldn't move them.
Praying for help was the only avenue open to her, and she gave herself up to mighty hands of her Savior.
